TCS work ?! how would U do it?

    TCS-Teamwork and Communication Skills

    Topic: Conflict Management

    1. Define and explain the five conflict management styles. (5m)

The five conflict management styles are, Avoiding, Competing, Compromising, Accommodating and Collaborating. Avoiding is that anything also can and that you won’t want to have a say in it as long as it works. Competing, is like the conflict is something like a debate and one party thinks that their idea is the best. Compromising, when both sides say that okay I’ll take your idea you take the part of my idea that you like too the end result would be like a hybrid of both parties’ idea. Accommodating, the members or other party is okay and have no opinion about the idea proposed and is not say fully willing to accept or reject the idea given. Collaborating, is when both parties or the group are willing to gather and just hear everyone’s views, opinions… etc. before deciding on the final idea which could be a hybrid of many ideas.

    1. Which style do you usually adopt when facing a conflict? Share your reasons. (5m)

Compromising and Collaborating as I feel that everyone deserves their chance to express themselves and who am I to stop them? And I can safely say that if I had given an idea it may not have covered the whole situation or should I say foolproof and in I might have over-looked and that information could affect how my idea could work out in the end or the people’s reaction. Therefore I always try to compromise or collaborate with people unless they are the accommodating type or avoiding type then I would do competing style to complete the goal before the desired deadline.

    1. Briefly describe a conflict situation that has taken place in your TCS/IDEA team. Describe and explain how you felt and responded at that point. (10m)

Well, the five of us-(Si Si, Kimberly, Wei Qi, Cheong Jie and I) had not really an argument but more of like we could not decide and we could not finished the work on time. Basically I tried to collaborate and compromise but they were not like responding and we all like could not think so I just added my idea in to help improve the points. Therefore I’m sorry about that as I didn’t seek their approval and just added in. Felt rather bad… but after I mention it their reactions were not so evil or anything like that so anyway after the presentation I apologized to them about it. This was in the TCS team for this particular topic.

    1. Describe two examples of giving and/or receiving feedback that you have observed during meetings with your TCS/IDEA team. (5m)

Well we have things to say but, most of us is that we won’t object to other member’s idea unless it is totally unrelated or it is too wordy then we would suggest either do a summery for it or have a picture instead to replace the words, but we make sure that the audience would still be able to understand or comprehend.

    1. Share how giving and receiving of feedback has been helpful to you and the team. If it has not been helpful, share your reasons. (5m)

Receiving feedback is always helpful as it will allow the members in the group to understand each other’s point or feelings when working with you and though the group that I’m in hasn’t have that much feedback given but I know that I haven’t been doing my part and for that I apologize as due to injuries and I admit some laziness on my part therefore I’m bucking up … ha-ha not everyone needs feedback to know how they are performing.
